Understanding the full OEM production process is essential for planning your collection timeline and avoiding unpleasant surprises. In this guide, we walk you through every step — from initial inquiry to final delivery — so you know exactly what to expect when working with a manufacturer.

1. Inquiry & Consultation

The journey begins with a conversation. In this initial phase, you share your project requirements with the manufacturer. This typically includes:

What you provide:

• Product concept — what you want to make (e.g., PU jacket, padded coat, wool coat)

• Approximate quantities — per style and colour

• Target price range

• Desired timeline — when you need samples and when you need bulk delivery

• Reference images — photos, sketches, or mood boards to communicate your vision

What the manufacturer does:

• Assesses feasibility — can we produce what you need?

• Provides initial feedback — material suggestions, cost estimates, production timeline

• Answers your questions — about MOQ, sample process, payment terms

At this stage, it’s also important to confirm the manufacturer’s certifications (BSCI, GRS, etc.) and factory capabilities — capabilities that directly determine whether they can meet your requirements.

2. Technical Review & Pattern Making

Once both sides agree to move forward, the technical work begins.

What happens:

• The manufacturer reviews your tech pack if available — or works from your reference images and measurements

• Our pattern maker creates the initial patterns using CAD software — this ensures accuracy and consistency for grading

• You approve the size specifications — measurements for each size (S, M, L, XL, etc.)

Why this stage matters:
Pattern making is the foundation of the entire production. A well-made pattern ensures consistent fit across all sizes and reduces the need for multiple sample rounds.

Time: 3-5 days

3. First Sample — Fit Sample

The first sample is often called a “fit sample”. Its purpose is to check the silhouette, proportions, and overall shape.

What you receive:

• A physical sample made from a similar fabric (often not the final fabric, to save time and cost)

• The sample reflects the design lines, structure, and measurements

What you check:

• Is the overall shape what you expected?

• How does the fit look? (This is where you may request adjustments to length, width, armhole position, etc.)

Time: 5-7 days from pattern approval to first sample

4. Review & Revision

Based on your feedback, the manufacturer makes adjustments to the pattern and produces a revised sample.

Typical revision points:

• Adjusting measurements (length, chest width, sleeve length)

• Refining silhouette (more fitted, more relaxed)

• Correcting any construction issues identified in the fit sample

• Adding design details (pockets, lapels, belt positioning)

Number of revision rounds:

• 1-2 rounds are typical. Complex designs may require 3 rounds.

5. Pre-Production Sample (PP Sample)

Once the fit and design are approved, the manufacturer produces a Pre-Production Sample.

What’s different about the PP Sample:

• Made using the actual bulk fabrics and trims — this is your final material confirmation

• Represents the final quality, stitching, and finish you can expect from bulk

• Used to confirm all details before full production begins

This is the most important sample you’ll receive.
Once you approve the PP sample, bulk production begins. Any major changes after this point will cause delays and additional costs.

Time: 7-10 days (includes sourcing of final materials)

6. Material Sourcing & Pre-Bulk Preparation

Before bulk production starts, the manufacturer prepares all materials:

• Main fabric sourced and inspected

• Lining fabric sourced and inspected

• Interlining, buttons, zippers, belts, and labels all ordered and received

• Materials undergo fabric inspection — checking for colour, weight, texture, and defects

7. Bulk Production
